Objects of Desire: Statement Sunglasses for Winter!

With cold comes the sun...and if it doesn't you just put your sunglasses on anyway!

Hey Loves!

Forget about the following things: Sunglasses being a summer item, and sunglasses being classic...or shall I say, boring.
Just remember this: Aviators and wayfarers are a complete thing of the past (unless they are extremely oversize) and that winter weather is the new excuse to wear statement sunglasses...
Yes, I said it: Wear sunglasses while it snows or when it's gray and chilly outside! Like I said on the previous Look Of The Day Post, accessories are not always meant to be functional and their use, isn't determined by necessity but rather by wants.
Statement sunglasses are an absolute must to complement anything you wear in winter. I am personally obsessed, I love them and I can't get tired of wearing them.

Wear them however and with anything you want, make sure you keep them interesting, if you opt for monotones, go for interesting shapes, like extremely round and big or pointy cat-like-vintage-feeling sunnies, baroque or even beaded!  The bolder you go, the bigger the statement, don't be afraid to adorn your face with these fabulous pieces.

LOTD: Sunnies For a Gray Day

It was raining, and you know what they say: Wear your sunnies under the rain!

Green: I don't think I've ever worn this shade of green ever in my life before(I'm not big on exploring with colors) but I thought I'd wear it, for a change.
The day: Gray, as always in Bogota, but that didn't stop me from wearing my new favorite sunnies.
The thing with accessories: They are not about practicality or functionality but rather a pure element used to cause an impact. I love them and unlike Mademoiselle Coco, I do not take something off before leaving the house, quite the opposite I add more.
The look: It was all about tuning a simple jersey dress/top and black pants into something that would cause a stronger impact. I used collar chains as embellishment for the middle area of the dress, golden rings and bracelet, a tribal print maxi scarf and round sunnies to do so. Threw over my favorite faux-fur vest (that I'm sure you guys must be tired of seeing lol) and black wedges and maxi bag to finish of the look.

Accessories close up. Ye, I randomly put collar chains on the stomach area, because why not!
That'd be all, sorry loves for the lack of posting, I have gotten your messages and I will be back in full swing in the coming weeks, promise!

LOTD: Casual Chic For a Night Out!

Hello lovelies! Hope you are all well. Recently I've gotten a couple of requests from readers to write an "Outfit of the night" post, to give you ideas on how to go out on at night without having to look extremely overdone but being able to look and wear something different to what is normally worn during day time. So last night, as I was ready to go out I said: "Ok wait a minute let me take a quick couple of pics so I can write the post later", and so I did.

I found it that when it comes to night clothes, if it is something on the casual-yet-dressy side, the best way to go is by giving it a formal look and toning it down. In order to do this, there are some pieces that are an absolute must: Trousers, shirts and heels. As long as you've got that the rest is easy! I paired up a pair of navy trousers with a black button down shirt, black heels and  to the whole look added a red, navy and white silk scarf wrapped in a Turkish style (a very beautiful and classic hijab style, if you ask me), the ever-trusty collar chains I love, and the most important piece, a faux-fur vest (one of my favorites for the season) to keep me warm as the night was extremely cold, just how I wrote about on the latest Runway to Wardrobe post. And voilĂ  I was all ready to go for a casual chic night out.

It really is just about keeping it simple, and chic and using the right kind of things to keep your night casual and your look chic as ever.

Runway to Wardrobe: Fluff & Warm

A little wile ago, a couple of readers of SM asked me to write about staying warm in the winter, so I went on the hunt for some of the most practical, fun and interesting runway pieces, perfect to be taken off the runway and on to your body to keep you warm, and the best way (that I found and thought of) to do it is fur (faux or not). Why? Because it really is something that will guaranty to make you feel warm and make you look good!

Pictures from Style.com

On the runway:

Fur, whether real or fake, is pretty much a staple in the fall/winter runways and a common sight on all of the Fashionistas on the street, what changes from season to season is the way designers choose to work with it. For this season fur steps away from just having entire coats made out of it, to becoming a complement to other fabrics as done by Roland Mouret, Jason Wu, BCBG Max Azria and others, who combined fur with wool, leather, and even cotton and plied touches and hints of it to different pieces. Aside from that, fur has also moved away from being a shoulder and upper body coverage piece, to become part of the rest of the body, as Mulberry and Rodarte did it. It is now used on dresses and skirts, and that means there are endless options to wear it and keep your body warm.

Take it to your wardrobe:

It is simple, you do not need to worry about how to make it happen, since fur accents look great on everyone and with almost everything.

1: The full effect: The easiest way to do it is to buy a coat, a vest or a short jacket, pair with a great maxi skirt or a simple maxi dress and you are good to go.

2: The accents: The second way, and this one is for those who feel like an entire piece made out of fur is too much, just go for the modern way of doing it and get pieces with just an accent of it. A jacket with a fur hood, on the neckline of capes, or on the sleeves, and even just on patches placed on random places of each piece!

3. The accessories: The third way and probably the most discrete yet useful way to stay warm with a bit of fluff, is by using fury accessories. A great fur scarf, playful earmuffs, and even the ever so fun-to-wear Cossack hats are always a way to go for winter. Furry boots and hand bags aren't out of the question either!

So stay warm and fluffy in style for the winter, you choose how to bring the fur into your wardrobe!
