Dreams & The Pleated Chiffon Skirt

I have big dreams and little dreams that set the tone for my daily life. Sometimes we feel the need to dream.  We dream about life, who we are and who we want to be. After we have dreamt we take action, we work and try to live and work for our dreams in every single thing we do.

Personally, I see dreaming as a motivation and as the reason for me to wake up every morning, to learn and do something new that will help me be the person I want to be. I like to get ready everyday to live my dreams, I like to dress without regrets and always thinking that whatever I do today is just another step towards tomorrow. I have big dreams and little dreams that are a part of me and that like a pleated chiffon skirt fold and unfold revealing something new as I walk through life.

Style Blabber: Alternative options to refresh the 'Maxi Look'

Maxi skirts and maxi dresses are probably a modest woman's signature pieces. But what happens when it suddenly becomes hard to find them, or if they simply get repetitive? It is a common thing to have recurring pieces and wardrobe essentials, and when it comes to modesty, it's fair to say that what I call the 'two Maxi's' (maxi dresses and maxi skirts) are modest wardrobe essentials but they are starting to become the be all and end all of modest style, or are they?

Last Thursday, I went shopping specifically on the hunt for bottoms, mostly maxi skirts. I was shocked to be unable to find anything that I didn't already have. It was then, when I realized I was way too dependent on the 'two maxis', and so are most women, to be honest.
I started to think it was imperative and necessary to start exploring other options and diversify my wardrobe. I decided to narrow it down to 4 essential and pretty practical options to replace and refresh the ´maxi look´. Here they are I hope they are useful and lovable to you!

  1. Probably one of the best options if not THE best option or replacement for maxi skirts are 'Palazzo' trousers, they are modest, comfortable and incredibly chic. They look good on every sort of body, whether you are slim or curvy, it really doesn't matter. Explore with stand-out colors, mix patterns textures and shapes. Try a peplum top with it and you'll love it!
  2. The second option I considered, was one of the easiest: Wearing long, oversize sweaters for coverage. Taking advantage of the fact that is fall and that it is perfect sweater weather , why not give it a try and pair it with colorful pants and loose shirts? Perfect opportunity to stay warm and keep it covered.
3. The third option, and one that I think is quite fun, is one inspired by layering. Layering a miniskirt over pants is probably the most fun way to style an otherwise revealing look. On my recent shopping sprees I've come across a lot of mini skirts, and I must admit that was a little bit annoying, however, there is a way. Combining colors, color blocking and contrasting them for a fun look, is a way to wear two bottom pieces (minis and pants) as a smart alternative to the 'two maxis'.

4. Last but not least, an option that probably doesn't require extra shopping (because I'm sure we all own a good coat) is wearing coats as dresses! It's simple, elegant and extremely classic. Keep it interesting with patterns on the leggings or skinnies you wear underneath and you will see that dressing up has never been any easier.

That is all for this style blabber. I know I hadn't done one in a while, but hey, better late than never! If you wish to have more information or personalized advice, please email ifo@stylemodesta.com.

LOTD: Take me back...

Timeless Modesty

Time passes by an it becomes insane to see how big our will to remember the past is. We long for those good moments that were once ours, they are gone, the memories still untouched, ever so present ever so inspiring...

Hello all! I don't know why, but today everything pushed me to be inspired by the past. I've been surrounded by tons of old (not to say vintage) pictures of my grandparents from when they were young. Coincidentally, as I was getting ready and looked in the mirror, I though: "Wow! I think modesty is just another way of going back and recovering those long-lost pieces and looks that were once forgotten, there is a certain feel of vintage, a feel of love for what is classic and classy." And yes, modesty, at least for me is a classic look. For example: Pieces like turbans became the 'it' accessory in the 20's, and square scarves where the signature look in the 50's and 60's of Hollywood starlets like Audry Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly. When did we ever see tight tank-tops and Über tight skinny jeans in 1920's-30's-40's or 50's pictures? As far as I can recall, NEVER!  Today's look was all about that; all about modesty being classic, modesty being timeless.

LOTD: A bit of color!

This morning I woke up happy, cheerful and ready to take on a new week. I happened to be feeling colors and I wanted to incorporate them into my outfits somehow (which is weird for me). I have some sort of weird aversion to color, most of my wardrobes is either black, white, navy. gray or earth tones, color is not really something I'm too into, you can say it is "not my thing". However with the day starting off with a sunny Monday, it was inevitable not to be in the mood for some light and bright colors!

One of the color combinations I've always loved is green and pink. The base of the outfit (skirt, shoes, turtle neck and turban) was black, while the color was given by a double-length green and hot pink accessories.

Simple make up just a bit of mascara and good to go. The asymmetrical back gives the jumper an interesting twist...It's Jumper season and that's the best thing a modest girl can ever hear!
